So why did the Court hold on to Snope since last December only to turn it away today?

Kostas Moros @MorosKostas The optimistic answer is they were negotiating behind the scenes and decided they didn't want the issue now, but agreed to take a futre case soon (Kavanaugh's statement, basically)

The pessimistic answer is they are spineless and will never meaningfully enforce Bruen.

The Kavanaugh statement is pretty remarkable - usually they say nothing when refusing a case. I hope that means that the 2A justices are holding out for a better case and a broader application of their ruling. Or maybe they've only got 4 votes and are taking a pass until they can get 5.

In any event, it's a no-decision, which is better result than upholding the ban. Bruen and Heller took a bit to get right for handguns, so I'm willing to wait a minute on a good solid affirmation of 2A rights for semi rifles that is untouchable for decades after.
