This discussion has been ongoing for a while and still always relevant. There shouldn't be "they just retire AND STILL RECEIVE GOV PENSION" nor a fine. You do the crime, you should be held in much higher accountability since you are holding position that represents the people.
A fine is bullshit. Even if it where enough to take everything away, we know from Panama Papers, that it all gets put into offshore bank accounts. "You'll never get their money because they hid it away."
I'd say it depends on the job, some of these folks were actually working on useful things like soil studies, fisheries, managing wildlife etc, at least in my rural neck of the woods.
A lot of the people in those cases were recent hires, that's all I know about that. I heard some about the administration admitting mistakes were made, and some people are getting rehired.
I should of been clearer. I just really hate how when there are things that happen that lead to DEATHS of others, and the people at the top didn't do anything because of greed/negligence I don't feel like paying a fine is really paying for their crime.
