When I found out they started vaccinating for chicken pox I kind of just glazed over. Like. What the fuck?
When I was growing up (and like basically everyone for decades or more) had a friend or family member that came down with it all of a sudden you were hanging out a lot and getting pizza and movies or something so you would get it and get over it quickly. Apparently getting it when you are older sucks balls and is harder to get over and you are more likely to get it again (it can come back).
This is why there is shingles vaccine now. Because youngsters don't contract chickenpox the oldsters don't have periodic exposure to keep their immune system trained. Agonizing shingles for old people is the result.
