Just harder than picking someone palatable the "Republicans" in Congress.
Hence using the laws and the system already in place to put a nice controllable chair-warmer in. No election. No "choosing". Mcarthy is perfect for them. He's a "republican". He's already bought and paid for. And he's already the speaker, which puts him 3rd in line of succession. The process of installing him would run on greased rails.
I understand your point. Mine is that whomever is installed next would need to primarily be palatable to Democrat voters, while also to Republican voters.
You and I aren't going to resolves this. We'll just wait and see who they pick to fill Harris' knee pads... um... shoes.
