They don't care that high energy costs screw over the majority of people. I think it could be two things. 1 being they don't like people who make money off oil and so they do what they can to kill those business profits and move more money over to 'green' energy. Which is run by the idiots they like. If the price of oil gets high enough the green energies can actually make money competing in the market. Or, 2, this is an idea being pushed by people who actually believe in global warming. So they just want to kill off profits from oil to 'save the planet'. Again, without caring how much this screws regular people over because they have a hero complex and need to feel like they will save the world. No matter the impact.
