I haven't followed Maher in years, but from what I remember about him, he's hard to hate. I can't remember a time where he's ever been purposefully disingenuous. Yes, his positions are wrong in my opinion, but I still have some respect for him, granted I'm probably outdated on him. I do remember more than one instance of him being the voice of reason vs the more rabid lefties.
