Because we feel like its better to live under tyranny and seek solutions within a broken and corrupt system that the tyrants control.

Better that than admitting our system has becone so broken and corrupt that it's turned into a tyranny and needs to be fought against by unlawful means for any hope of salvation.

We had faith in our country, leaving that faith behind is for many far harder than leaving faith in God, and this is coming from someone who left both behind.

Im a large part, it's admitting that there's something wrong with us, that things only got this way because we made it happen, us, and our ancestors, worse, we did it not just through passively allowing it, but through becoming enthusiastic about the ideas and principles that this tyranny used to assert itself.

We proudly stood for equality, and the result was that when we were discriminated against, we could do nothing, say nothing, against it.

We proudly stood for democracy, and the result was that demagogues sold us poison, and then tyrants manipulated the vote to secure an iron grip with two parties in a fake play of opposition.

We proudly stood for freedom, and the result was that our spaces were invaded by those whose only real goal was to give us no place of our own.

We got soft, we let down our weapons, prejudice, intolerance, exclusivity, all the different things we were taught were evil, were in actuality potent weapons keeping us safe from harm.

It was these that allowed us to circle some bit of soil and say "this is my land, and here, I have the advantage and preference is given to me and my people".
