I've shared quite a few articles / columns / opinion pieces on a split, mostly because I find the topic fascinating. I see three new nations as the outcome; not two. Regardless, your point about foreign interference is my biggest concern. Yes, the Chinese, Russians, and Israelis are already meddling in our affairs to their benefit. Yes, that influence needs to be scoured free from the "traditional" remnant of the USA if it is to survive on its own. However, there will be no way for it to be removed from the Republic of California and/or whatever the northeast states call themselves. We'd have borders on our east and west that would need to be closely watched in addition to the Mexico and Canada borders. A three-state solution will be hard to achieve and harder to maintain.
