TL;DR: No he won't. He issued a press release that Florida ports are open but good luck getting 70+ ships from Los Angeles to Miami.

The media has been very busy issuing warnings to American consumers of late. CNN told us to get ready for emptier shelves. News outlets suggested shopping early for Christmas to avoid shortages. Pictures of dozens of container ships off the West Coast that are not allowed to dock have gone viral.

What can a concerned consumer do? Head to Florida.

Last week, the Florida Ports Council put out a press release telling shippers that the state’s ports are open, staffed, and ready for business. “Florida is where your success comes in, and our seaports are the solution to ensure the cargo shipping logjam doesn’t become the grinch that stole Christmas,” said Florida Ports Council President and CEO Michael Rubin. He added, “With inflation growing, shipping and manufacturing industries can save time and money by calling on Florida ports. Why pay to moor off the coast of California, when Florida shipping lanes are open and serving as the gateway for getting goods to America’s market?”

Appropriately tagged.

I've yet to see numbers on how many of these ships are super Panamax vessels. I'm willing to bet a great deal. These ships are not going around Cape Horn to reach Florida, it isn't logical.

Perhaps we can focus on the root of the problem and, bring manufacturing back to America. This issue is a symptom of that deficiency.

This is one of the few issues I agreed with Trump on.

It's funny too how much people are worried about getting their consumer crap from China.

You fuckers don't need that shit! Better stock up canned goods instead.

The wife and I just did another restock this past weekend. We've got about 10 months of most items and more of a few others. The one thing we don't have enough of (to me) is dog food. We only have a 6 month supply.

Idiots. By the time the ships come through the Panama canal, and get all the way there, the added costs have to be paid by someone. Is FL going to subsidize this? What about time sensitive goods, like food? Same for goods from Europe. NY and Baltimores newly expanded and fully staffed port make way more sense. FL is a peninsula, so you have to drive through a lot of state to get products elsewhere.

PR stunt.
