Anyone living in a Blue State or area is screwed
I think the article was pointing out the opposite, it's the Red states that would be screwed, unless they will be happy with a massive drop in living standards
Liberals can't do grow a garden or survive. The Blue States would see a massive rise in ghetto areas. You are mixed up, but it's okay, you are entitled to your opnion.
Compare it to the Handmaid's Tale or the Hunger Games, the Red states would be supplying the food, the Blue States would supply everything else.
This is why for centuries people have migrated into cities, because the living standard was clearly better
There are many countries that import nearly all of their food, being able to grow a potato is not that big of a deal.
Red States would suffer badly over this trading imbalance, Blues States would need them for nothing. This may be an ego blow, but that's how it would pan out in the real world
