I get the reason people don't want to give money to Israel but Iron Dome is worth funding because we don't have this capability nor do we currently have the battleground conditions that would make it's capabilities necessary. Iron Dome is municipality-wide defense from short range ballistic projectiles. That fills a hole between our site-specific CIWS (like Phalanx) and our region-wide Patriot batteries. No one else on earth is experiencing city-scale ballistic attacks so it makes sense to fund this type of defense. We currently have two Iron Dome batteries used to protect infantry, an ideal application because the size of the protected region allows for maneuver and its mobility allows flexibility and rapid deployment.
