The last soldier executed by the military was US Army Pvt. John Bennett, who was hanged in 1961 at Fort Leavenworth, after being convicted of raping and attempted murder of an 11 year old Austrian girl.

The last execution by firing squad was of Pvt. Slovik, for desertion, on January 31, 1945,
