I'm not sure where the wife and I are going next but we have a few options to pick from. Definitely out of the north east.
I am looking to winter in S. Alaska, there are actually temp zones higher than NY, then go exploring (gold hunting) in the good months. I am also exploring the economics of raising beef there as well, it's worth as much as gold and I know how to do that.

Now that is a skill that will serve you well post-apocalypse.
Nothing I'd rather do, except hunt a little gold. And growing things, i'll miss my little orchard, but that can be replanted. I'll take some apple grafts, and grape cuttings along. My biggest problem now other than taxes is land. All the big farmers can and will pay a lot more than I can, then they farm the piss out of it and need more, instead of taking care of it.
