10,000 - 20,000 vulnerable people died in care homes in New York after the governor enacted policies to spread COVID-19 through care homes, "like fire through dry grass." He will be allowed to resign for an unrelated matter.
There is a name for this: Structural Violence.
Today in New York it appears excusable to employ lethal structural violence against vulnerable people of pensionable age resulting in thousands of deaths through negligence forced on care givers by policy from the state government. As the chief officer the governor had reason to know about this and its likely consequences - and chose not to act. In choosing to focus on sexual harassment the attorney general is also making a choice. Why is sexual harassment higher priority than 10,000 dead? Because sexual harassment is used to control people in power.
It's not shocking because you all new this was coming, but it is sad for the victims and terrifying for the next victims. I suppose there is a natural order to these types of programs - get the pensioners first because of the expense and existence of a good cover story. I would start to be nervous if I were a member of a demographic who is expensive to maintain and unlikely to be productive in the future.
- First they came for the old and vulnerable.
