Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) vetoed funding for the state legislature on Friday, carrying out the threat he made last month after Democrats staged a walk-out to block legislation.

Democrats in the Texas House walked off the floor of the House chamber last month, breaking quorum and stopping Republicans from passing election reforms, as well as a bail reform legislation that Abbott in particular wanted, according to The Texas Tribune. After the walk-out, Abbott vowed to defund the legislative branch for “abandon[ing] their responsibilities.”

If you were to defund the US Congress, 95% of them wouldn't care or notice. They are basically independently wealthy and the scraps that 'we' give them are meaningless to their overall financial status.

How does the general income of the Texas Legislature compare to the salary they receive from the state? Do they care?

I don't think the percentage of rich congresspeople is that high, at least for those who have only gotten there recently. Sandy Ocasio wasn't pulling in the dough as a bartender in The Bronx, for example. It takes a few years for the graft to really start adding up.

That said, I don't know the financial makeup of the TX State Legislature but I'd assume there are quite a few of them who won't notice the lack of income,
