One big union lie is that it was they who forced the 40 hour work week. It was exactly the opposite, Ford, no angel, needed to attract people away from his rivals. He also needed to keep people he'd spent the effort on training, so he paid them more than they'd get elsewhere and improved working conditions enough for them to stay.
