We have entire industries dedicated to not just understanding this but studying it for profit. The human animal is a known quantity the way a horse, a cow, a dog or a cat are known quantities to us with respect to how to modify their behaviours and expectations. Communicating, persuading, energizing, leading, etc. are know quantities. Today they are known at the scientific level in ancient times they were skills analogous to a trade.
