Roads are expensive. Lots of money goes into payoffs and other campaign contributions.
Yeesh. I've seen people build the expensive road of great quality. No campaign contributions. Didn't cost that much more and has been around for decades... hardly any maintenance. That's the roads we needs.
Roads: the ultimate sin tax. You get taxed to build the road, then you get taxed to use the road through tolls, then you get taxed again on gas for using said roads, and taxed yet again with car insurance. On top of this you now have to register your car every year, another form of taxation. Clearly, the elites hate the idea of you having a vehicle
Roads are hardly part of the total budget. This country spends 7.6T yet only 260B goes to actual roads.

Most roads are private. Think of every housing development, every farm, every ranch, every factory. All those places have roads, the government just links them up.
