They truly can't understand if $24 an hour is enough for someone to live a decent life, why paying everyone $24 an hour wouldn't give everyone a decent life.
I've tried explaining to them that the economy is like an engine, but instead of working on energy gradients it works on value gradients. People earning $24 an hour don't live well because their wage is $24 an hour, they live well because their wage is higher than 50% of the population. The dollar amount doesn't matter. 100% of the people making more than 50% of the people isn't possible, which means everyone living as well as someone making $24 an hour today isn't possible. But that's not going to stop them from destroying society in the process of trying.
