How exactly would they have prevented this anyway. Just like they prevented hurricane Katrina? Im not convinced more regulation would have made a difference considering the companies already had guidance on winterizing just were lax considering its only an issue once every 25 years. I think Texas should pass a regulation forcing all new construction and replacement hotwater heaters, furnaces and stoves be natural gas and that would have done far more good.

Yes, electric heat and water heaters are a very bad idea. I also think Tank water heaters sound be banned. Tank-less Water heaters are the way to go.

Why? I had hot water for 20 min after the power went out. Tankless also puts a bigger strain on the grid because of the surging demand. That's the hardest part to deal with.

No it’s not. It’s a very small electrical charge to start the gas. It runs for a bit then it goes off.
