Although I am much older than you I started out similarly. Rough home life, out of the house young, worked heavy construction to keep a roof over my own head. It took me a long time to get to the point where I was stable enough to take a chance on a more viable long-term career and settle down. I'm not much for pep talks but I will tell you one thing someone I respect said to me.
If you think you can't do something, you're right.
