We are so far past that point now. I don't think there is turning back. Look at the biggest budget items Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare. Where is that in the Constitution? General welfare; give me a break.

That isn't totally true. It is possible to keep getting payments after what you paid in is exhausted. If you die before all your balance is paid out, that balance is not given to your survivors.

True. And I'm generally okay with that. Again: that's social security, that's a thing that everyone either gains or loses, so it's a net zero. We don't have that, and being specific when naming "social security" should be done.
