It means when a virus naturally spontaneously jumps species (proposed wet market hypothesis) it is *initially* not well adapted to the new host as is not very infectious at first. It has to undergo additionally mutations to fully adapt to the new host. But that wasnt what we saw with covid. “High affinity for ACE2 receptor” (you can google that) means it was already *perfectly* adapted for human beings, because it was raised in a lab and *trained* to infect human cells thriugh a method called *passaging*. Also if this was a spontaneous mutation transfer from an animal, we would be able to identify **the intermediate host** i.e. there would be another animal with a pandemic disease similar to covid in its population. A civet was the intermediate host for SARS. A camel was the intermediate for MERS. Viruses do not typically jump from bats to humans because the physiology is too different apparently. There needs to be a “stepping stone” host— they still havent found one that is carrying covid. All signs this was a man made virus.
