Yeah, basically. Hitler, like most good men, put too much trust in the inherent goodness of men. He didn’t have the stomach for wholesale slaughter. He also had many jew family friends who rode his tiger to positions of power within the Wehrmacht and the SS. That certainly didn’t help.

The thing Hitler did, however, was solidify once and for all that we can never have peace with jews, anywhere. I think he was holding out the last vestige of hope, that they could have a place of their own in the world. This, based on how many of them he had near him. It made him look like controlled opposition. Which I think he evidently was.

It doesn’t change the fact that he could have succeeded, and things could have gone the other way. He just made too many tactical errors.
