You know, I've always taken the opposite view. Everything should belong to "people", not "the people".
But I would love to see Texas reposes these shithead's lands and get started on that Bernie Paradise - at their expense.
Where i live there are millions of acres of public lands around. I consider it both owned by and for the people. I own it, you own it, every tax paying citizen owns it. Im free to travel around it camping, hunting, shed hunting, berry picking, mushroom picking, whatever the fuck i want and i dont have to ask anybodys permission. That to me is what america is about. I can go on these vast expanses of public land and recreate, or make money trapping, picking shrooms or shed hunting. It truly belongs to all of us. Texas is a mess of fences and private property lines preventing residents from living as free people.
You could say the same thing about any private property. There probably needs to be a balance, though.
I hqve no issues about private property. I own a little land myself, and have permission to hunt several thousand acres of private land, which i do not take for granted. But i mainly hunt and recreate on public land. The thought of an entire state, the biggest in the lower 48 in fact, comprised almost entirely of private land... it just seems unamerican to me. No freedom to roam there.
