To me it sounds like /r/wallstreetbets all discussed buying up GME at the same time but not collectively. Each individual makes their own decision on investing. When it took off and Melvin Capitol was caught with it's pant's down. They ( Whoever They Are ) saw an opportunity as well. That's when they started eating their own.
