I always kinda felt like I'd eventually see Shadowrun become reality (the old books, games, not the newer rip offs) but I also had an inkling that if I did, that I wouldnt like it.

I'm running the storyline in my head now, for the world setting, and before the corps were allowed to hold armies and wage wars, all the humans began to deform into mythical like creatures, a genetic aberration brought on by a failed attempt to vaccinate, turns humans into Trolls and Orcs (cmon this is funny just think about it) and do you know what that event was termed?

I could be wrong as I'm pulling this from 20 year old memories, but I believe it was called the great awakening.

found it (shadowrun.fandom.com)

I'm not a fan of all the magic and dragons but as a dystopian world setting, Shadowrun is tops.

Corporations

Main article: Shadowrun corporations

The monolithic "enemies" of the Shadowrun world (borrowing heavily from cyberpunk mythos) are the Corporations, dubbed "Megacorporations", "Megacorps", or simply "megas" or "corps" for short. Megacorporations in the 21st century are massively global, with all but the smallest corps owning multiple subsidiaries and divisions around the world. They are the superpowers of the Shadowrun universe, with the largest corporations having far more political, economic, and military power than even the most powerful nation-states.
