this may have been due to influence of kissinger. i don't believe Nixon was wise to kissinger's leanings.

Nixon joined the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1947, was friends with Joe McCarthy, supported the Taft-Hartley Act to monitor trade union activity. Nixon may have been from CA, but Hollywood hated him.
