It's easy to get that high when nothing is gas. If I truly wanted off grid, I'd want a minimum 10kw continuous. By the time you have chest freezers, refrigerator, oven, misc appliances you're over. That's me but everyone's mileage varies. 5k continuous is great but not enough for me to tell the power company go pound dirt.
