It's been a while since I took any toxicology, but I seem to remember that systems in your body don't get dependent on it to operate, like say a blood pressure medication or something, it's just the pure physical shock from stopping it right away that can kill you.
So, technically, yes. You can die from stopping suddenly, even if the mechanism is somewhat different.

Yeah I know. I think you have to be like a complete drinking all the time alcoholic before you get to that point. Normally you'll just get the Delirium tremens from withdraw. The shakes and shivers and other things you'd associate with withdraw from any stimulant drug.
