I think I was one of the few who weren't OK with the idea of flattening the curve; at least the way it was represented.
If the idea was to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed with patients, keeping everyone at home theoretically does that only once. The initial wave is lessened. The idea should be to let those at a lower risk-level go back to their lives. Some will get sick but so long as the hospitals can handle the flow we (as a society) will be OK.
It was good to limit use of PPE. That's been the limiting factor that I've seen.
Right. But only initially while stockpiles could be replenished. The only real benefit to flattening the curve is in giving the hospitals a chance to handle the number of patients they're forced to handle. Now what we've done that, the goalpost needs to be moved, as you pointed out.
There are still problems with getting enough PPE, but the influx of patients is currently manageable. Flattening the curve did work. Now it is time to let people get back to work. There will be people who will self quarantine and that is fine, smart if you are high risk. However most of us are not high risk so Wtf is the point?
