Why not embrace both?
Back in ancient times when dragons ruled the skies, the 20th century, taxes, to me, seemed reasonable with no sales tax on most stuff and 1% on the rest. The rich paid a bit more than the middle class. So, I didn't mind the system. Now, the state I live in steals more income tax, property tax, and has a high sales tax. And yet the state, and federal, bastards don't even try to be fiscally responsible. Just spend more and raise taxes again. Now, the wealthy pay a lower percentage that the middle class, who also have FICA and Medicare taxes stolen from their income. The rich don't pay those taxes on income above ~$100,000. Tax cuts for the middle class are needed. Fuck giving more tax cuts to billionaires. No new jobs are created. They just buy bigger homes, boats and jets.
Taxation is indeed theft. It took me a long time to realize how much I'd been robbed by the state. We all have.
The US government doesn't have a revenue problem. No matter how much they collect in taxes they always spend more than they collect. And they always want more.
