The jury deliberated after closing arguments and concluded late this morning, and the courtroom was called back at 2:05 PM because the jury had already reached a decision.

They spent roughly an hour and fifteen minutes total discussing the case before returning the guilty verdict on the first-degree murder charge, completely bypassing the lesser manslaughter option. With the verdict read, the judge immediately revoked Anthony's bond, and he was remanded into custody.

< 75 minutes. When "you can also find manslaughter too" was thrown at them this morning. Which any reasonable person knows that 60 minutes of that time was likely spent warbling over "maybe manslaught" because of 1 o r 2 "well he's so young!"

There were no niggies on the jury, so prolly five minutes of "maybe manslaughter" and seventy of "how long do we have to sit here to avoid being called racist?"

  • The Transition: Moving 12 jurors and alternates out of the courtroom, getting them situated in the deliberation room, and dealing with the logistical shuffle easily eats up 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Administrative Tasks: Electing a foreperson, reading through the final charge, and filling out the official verdict forms takes another chunk of time.
  • The Manslaughter Component: Because Judge Roach didn't rule on including the lesser manslaughter option until right before closing arguments, that entire instruction had to be added to the charge at the final second.

That's an LLM reduction of me because I a negro and can't write. But logically, the timing is sub 1-hour and more than likely 12 walked into a room and when the 12th sat down a unanimous "he's guilty" rang out.

Anything that's less than several hours isn't a real debate. It's the jurors saying to eachother, "ok we have to sit here long enough to make people think we had a debate and tried to see if we could find reasonable doubt even though we all instantly agreed there isn't any."

Jury is now in "punishment phase" where both sides present evidence specifically regarding the sentence. - The prosecution immediately rested its sentencing case. - The defense called its first witness—Anthony’s mother, Kayla Hayes—who testified about his regret. The defense then rested after her testimony.

The jury will receive a new set of instructions regarding sentencing, hear closing arguments from both sides (or that's the above, I'm not sure the exact ordering of all of this), and head back to deliberate on the final sentence. The statutory sentencing range is 5 to 99 years or life in prison. He must serve 50% or 30years, whichever is less, of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
