My understanding is that their just stopped production not use. There technically should be enough pennies in circulation to meed the need... Assuming people actually dig them out of their couchs and ass cracks.

People started hoarding them since the announcement was made. Many retailers are having a hard time since their systems still go down to the cent (wonder why). /s

It's been causing a lot of problems all over the place. I think a bunch of people started holding them back thinking they would be worth a LOT in like 5 years. (maybe in 100 years) but you get what I am saying.

Unless it's something special I highly doubt that pennies will ever be ultra valuable. There is simply too many of them.
