Yeah, this is a prion disease sort of like Mad Cow. It would be very, very bad if it ended up in humans. There is no treatment or cure, your body just slowly and painfully dies. I don't like the click-bait title but at the same time, this is not something they can in-theory even make a vaccine for (even if you did trust them).

In WY you are required to take your kill in for testing before it can be "turned into food". Or at least I remember reading that at some point. I could be wrong and it could be by-county.

I know they require samples no matter what if you get a tag and actually fill it.

I haven't hunted anywhere other than my property for decades, but I remember the game & fish guys would set up check stations in small towns and rest stops for strongly encouraged but voluntary checks.

yeah, I would be more than fine with a voluntary check. I don't care if it currently is not in humans but if nothing else that would ruin the meat and quality.

There is also that possibility of being patient zero that would suck in basically every way you can think of.. But you wont, because it will literally rot your brain while its rotting the rest of your organs/body.
