According to this article (ktla.com) which predates the Ohio disaster, an average of 1,704 trains derail in the US every year. That's 4.7 daily.
I wish they would stop it with the "OMG a train derailed" BS. It's a distraction from the disaster in Ohio and will probably be used to justify another "shovel ready" government spending grift.
