BTW - It was not a built up area but a stretch of highway along open ground with a thick tree line.
Despite what you may believe, i'm not having a go, i just dislike 'opinions/ assumptions/ inferences' that are verifiably at odds with obvious reality.
Was reasonably built up. I know the stretch. Misc business scattered along route and heavy traffic. A friend turning around in traffic sent me a picture her son snapped. So yeah, there was lots to hit that they fortunately missed but now it appears just dumb luck.
I had seen a couple of initial reports and assumed from the descriptions a tail rotor failure and some degree of autorotation, e.g. control, even if minimal. Found the linked Ring doorbell footage here. You are right. Zero control. Whatever it was it was catastrophic. Straight drop, no arc whatsoever.
