I recently saw a pack of 5 dozen eggs for $27 in a local grocery store. So this guy is telling me that grocery stores just decided to double the price of eggs but aren’t paying more for eggs from producers?

I call bullshit

Producers are often left in the cold when retailers raise prices. I've known some producers that just gave up and sold their holdings because, while stuff like milk and other produced goods were soaring, none of the wholesalers would buy at a rate that let them stay in business.

We already know, because of record profits, companies have been raising prices to gouge without compensating the suppliers. So this is just more business as usual. This was the crux of the lumber shortage too.
