A few months ago Amazon announced a hiring freeze at the corporate level. This was the obvious next step. The only question was how big this round of layoffs would be. It’s not as big as Meta’s round of layoffs. That’s because Amazon is cutting back at the start of a recession while Meta is doing that and dealing with a major product—Facebook—in decline.
