Had the misfortune of having to spend a weekend in downtown Philly a year ago. What a hellhole. Walked past a few of those Wawa's and avoided going in ... so many 'youth' (is that the 'media' approved term these days?) milling around. Only bright side that it was VERY eye opening for my younger kids who have grown up in an isolated (i.e. rural & white) community. It generated some good conversations on race, crime, drugs, mental health, politics, etc.
