Get yourself a home distilling unit - then you can draw water right out of the nearby creek or river, distill it, and safely drink it. (The unit does require electric power.) Also get maps of any nearby springs. Not sure what kinds of water can be purified with the gravity filters like a Berkey (sp?) - that might be another solution.
