I can’t even understand what they hope to accomplish.

They’ll never confiscate all the gun.

The better solution is total armament.

They're more than willing to play the long game. Banning guns wouldn't do shit to gun owners for the first few years. After a generation or two that has never been to a gun range or hunting, then the population becomes pretty helpless.
