Not only that, but they have little to no idea what they are doing and little reason to make sure your execution isn’t a drawn out excruciating ordeal beyond some vague notion of causing ‘strange and unusual punishment’. I do remember a case where they fucked up a lethal injection and instead of dying, the guy wound up convulsing, screaming in agony. At this point, I’m sure they are more than able to fuck up even a firing squad.
I’m all for the death penalty in theory. But until the US stops sentencing innocent people to death and ultimately figures out how to perform that execution in an expedient and ‘humane’ fashion, it leaves the door open for a very real and justified push to abolish the death penalty altogether. Either do it right or don’t do it at all.
