Because you don't just install a remote starter on every car then charge people just to use what they already have purchased. The fact that they use "servers" to perform this function is just the workaround excuse they've implemented to rape you in the wallet. They went out of their way to over-engineer a damned remote starter it in such a way to enable this user hostile practice.

Edit: AND ANOTHER THING, DAMNIT!! How many times a year honestly are you going to have to remote start your vehicle when it's out of range of standard radio keyfobs? Maybe two or three times? Probably never? Is it really worth it? Hell no.
