$31 an hour is not doctor/lawyer money, it's only ~$62k a year before taxes, they make more than that. I'm salary, not in either of those fields, and I make what would amount to around $65/hr. Granted, I'm a highly knowledgeable professional and there are very few people that can do what I do.
$62k a year is decent money (not great) in the midwest. I wouldn't want to make that on the coasts, you'd never maintain, let alone get ahead.
