Wasn't arson like one of the most atrocious crimes, historically? Like, up there with rape and murder in terms of how you'd be punished? Arsonists not only cause immense property damage, but potentially kill people or fuck them up from smoke inhalation or w/e. Arsonists historically were dealt with swiftly and brutally.
