Fusion occurs when two atoms slam together to form a heavier atom releasing energy like what happens in the Sun. Cold Fusion is the holy grail of energy and entirely theoretical. Essentially the bonding would be chemical at room temperature and pressure instead of at the thousands of degrees and millions of pounds of pressure what is necessary in a star or thermonuclear detonation.
