2: Get defensive pistol training from a reputable trainer. If I can find one recommended by former SOF in Anchorage AK, you can find one close to you.
3: From that point forward, we refuse to go anywhere that doesn't allow 2A self-defense A courthouse I know is an exception, but nowhere else.
You owe it to your race to survive. Nobody is coming to rescue you.
As to the perpetual 9mm vs 45 debate; I carry a 45 with 200 grain gold dot HP's. The larger, slower moving bullet has a far greater chance of dumping all its kinetic energy in my target and not over-penetrating. Far less chance of hitting someone behind your target with a through-and-through shot.
Say what you will about modern 9mm loads reducing over-penetration, a 9mm may expand but a 45 doesn't shrink. And winter jackets hose HP performance, so keep that in mind when seasons change.
