The difference is making a statement and then having the statement used against you because it doesn't fit a narrative. Regardless of what venue, an article in a newspaper, screaming at a department store or posting a meme on social media, our speech is protected. Your argument using the NYT or someone screaming in the department store would be relevant if either were writing or yelling about the vaccine and why not to take it. As we now know, our government will step in and expect the NYT to correct their misinformed article and the yelling person to stop yelling the misinformation about the vaccine. The spying term used was the government dictating to social media to identify the people spreading what the government has determined "misinformation". No one was informed they were collecting this data and passing on profile information to the government. Public information aside, it would have been an impossible task to isolate anyone without the database.
It's called FACE....BOOK. Book of faces, anyone who heard that name and doxxed themselves, out any real opinion or anything should have seen this coming.
You are totally right. People who put their thoughts out there should have been prepared for the outcome. It is called fortitude, a backbone or personal integrity. Did we expect the government to use this social platform to isolate those who they determined were not working in behalf of the government, I would say, initially, no? Have they doxed themselves now? Yes, now we know, without a doubt they have used this platform and others to identify those they fear.
Ayn Rand escaped Soviet Russia to got to America and said we are in the beginning stages of what she escaped. I know what is right and wrong, I know what freedoms we have. There is no government that ever has or ever will not be corrupted at some point in time. It's best to fight the good fight from the shadow brother. Until the sheep too have had enough and rally to arms. Then the sheep dogs come out to lead.
