I live in a nice community in a medium sized city in CA, not far from a medium sized metropolitan area. It’s a small community off a major freeway with idyllic streets, a small shopping center that nobody else really uses, very little crime, and mostly high 700s - low million dollar condos and homes. The residents are primarily knowledge work professionals, maybe 1/2 white, 1/2 Asian and Indian. It’s a really nice place. Tucked away near the freeway, there’s a section 8 apartment complex, maybe 100 units or so. It’s residents stick out like a sore thumb, like smoggy old piece of shit cars in a sea of Teslas. Any time there’s a quality of life disturbance, it’s them. Anytime there’s a robbery, it’s them. Anytime you feel unsafe walking around the neighborhood, it’s them. I pay a lot to live here. I already pay for their food and housing and fake disability and incarceration and health care. I got educated and work hard to make enough money to live here because I want to be around like minded similar people who also work hard, mind their own business, are peaceful and tactful and polite, and share my values. It’s just fucking obscene, I don’t understand why they get to live here too and denigrate the quality of this neighborhood we all are working so hard to build.
